Laser-Induced Fluorescence Velocity Measurements of a Low Power Cylindrical Hall Thruster

Laser induced uorescence was used to map the ion velocities of the CHT-30 both inside the thruster channel and in the plume. A nominal operating condition was examined and compared to an o_-nominal case with a weaker magnetic _eld at two chamber operating pressures. Results show that inside the thruster channel, the magnetic _eld pro_le prevents high energy ions from residing near the channel wall. Instead, these ions are focused toward then thruster centerline.
